Magnetic Monopole and the Finite Photon Mass: Are They Compatible?
نویسندگان
چکیده
We analyze the role played by the gauge invariance for the existence of Dirac monopole. To this end, we consider the electrodynamics with massive photon and ask if the magnetic charge can be introduced there. We show that the derivation of the Dirac quantization condition based on the angular momentum algebra cannot be generalized to the case of massive electrodynamics. Possible implications of this result are briefly discussed. Typeset using REVTEX

We investigate in detail the problem of constructing magnetic monopole solutions within the finite-range electrodynamics (i.e., electrodynamics with non-zero photon mass, which is the simplest extension of the standard theory; it is fully compatible with the experiment). We first analyze the classical electrodynamics with the additional terms describing the photon mass and the magnetic charge; ...

Introduction: Photon contamination is a restriction on treatment with electron that increase dose to healthy tissue below the tumor. The aim of this study is to reduce the photon contamination using a magnet system. Materials and Methods: A mini-applicator equipped with two neodymium boron permanent magnets was designed which make it possible to adjust the d...
متن کاملPhoton as the Magnetic Monopole
In this paper we reinvestigate photon. We show that photon with a specific frequency can be identified with the Dirac magnetic monopole. We give a model of quantum electrodynamics from which we derive photon as a quantum loop of this model. This nonlinear loop model of photon is exactly solvable and thus may be regarded as a quantum soliton. From the winding numbers of this loop model of photon...
متن کاملMonopole - antimonopole interaction in Abelian Higgs model
We consider interaction of a probe monopole-antimonopole pair in the vacuum of the Abelian Higgs model. For simplicity, the mass of the Higgs particle is assumed to be much larger than the mass of the photon (London limit). In case of a massive photon the straightforward application of the Zwanziger formalism to accommodate both magnetic and electric charges is known to result in gauge dependen...
متن کاملDirac Magnetic Monopole Production from Photon Fusion in Proton Collisions
We calculate the lowest order cross–section for Dirac magnetic monopole production from photon fusion (γγ) in pp̄ collisions at √ s = 1.96 TeV, pp collisions at √ s = 14 TeV, and we compare γγ with Drell–Yan (DY) production. We find the total γγ cross–section is comparable with DY at √ s = 1.96 TeV and dominates DY by a factor > ∼ 50 at √ s = 14 TeV. We conclude that both the γγ and DY processes...
